We are privileged to see another beautiful day this new week because God kept us. We appreciate God’s loving kindness towards us.
Hear the word of God from
2 Peter 1 vs 5-8
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; [6] And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; [7] And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. [8] For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The word that came to us today makes us understand that Christianity is more than going to church and partaking or participating in church activities. There are some virtues we must add to distinguish us from this perverse and crooked world where we are located to shine as light in darkness. We are in the world to please God, who has chosen and preferred us above the people of the world.
Today, scripture tells us,
“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;” 2 Peter 1 v 5.
The essence of this is that Christianity is beyond going to church to mark the register for services and to dress neatly or gorgeously in garments or suits to show that we are Christians. No, it’s not! There are some virtuous characters we must possess and add to our faith to portray us as true followers of Jesus Christ.
Apostle Peter shows us in the above scripture the virtues we must add to our Christian lives to make us acceptable to God and men. These virtues are knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and charity ( 2 Peter 1 v 15)
The summary of these implies that we should always desire to do good to others. We are commanded to avoid rendering evil for evil. Instead, we must follow what is good among ourselves and all other people. In addition, we must lead by example. We must love the word of God, live by the word, and bring forth fruit of righteousness and godliness that will manifest the virtues we have added to our faith. (1 Thessalonians 5 v 15, 2 v 12, 1 Peter 2 v 2, 1 Peter 2 v 15, Gal 5 v 22 – 23)
AS CELESTIANS, we are commanded by our inspirational Hymn to add virtue to our faith. CCC Hymn 13 Good behaviour for thee all I pray, Ye all my entire prophets, Eschew all bitterness and envy, And move nearer to Christ, etc. (Iwa rere mo toro fun yin, Eyin woli mi gbogbo, E ko iwa ilara kuro ke le sun mo Oluwa, etc) I want every member to note that this hymn is not referring to the prophets alone but to all members in CELESTIAL. Let’s guide our behaviour.
In conclusion, when we have these things, we will be fruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ( 2 Peter 1 v 8)
Father, thank You for the word You sent to us today. I pray that through this word, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, we receive grace to live according to these virtues so that our religion will not be in vain and we will live a life that is pleasing unto God in all aspects in Jesus’ Mighty name. Amen!
Have a wonderful week.
Stay blessed.
JESUS IS LORD!
