COUNT THE COST

COUNT THE COST

We thank God for the gift of a new day again today and the opportunity to be counted among the partakers. Glory be to God.

Hear the word of God from Luke 14 vs. 28 -29
For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it ? [29] Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it , all that behold it begin to mock him.

This word of Jesus is important to we believers because it emphasizes or specifies the need to carefully consider the sacrifices and commitments involved in following Jesus before we fully commit ourselves to a life of discipleship.

More importantly, it means to understand the anticipated challenges and costs associated with being Christians before we embark on the journey. It involves a genuine and lasting commitment.

The journey is just like building a tower as Jesus describes. It requires dedication to the end and not abandoning the project halfway. If we do, it can lead to mockery from others. We must consider the sacrifices we might need to make and other things we might need to do away with (John 16 v 33, Matthew 16 vs. 24- 25). Following Jesus is a deliberate decision that requires a total focus and dedication. (Luke 9 v 62)

This also applies to our personal lives. There is an adage that says we should look before we leap. This implies that we should think before we act. We should consider the pros and cons of our actions before we decide to make decisions. You don’t start something you know you can’t finish and start struggling to back out when things are working on the contrary against you. Consider the cost before you venture into anything in life.

Are you venturing into a project, business, ministry, career, or relationship? Count the cost! You don’t enter into the water and start shouting it’s cold. Everything we do matters a lot, and it can be binding on us if we are not careful.

According to Jesus, it is very important to have the foresight before you get started on a project to ensure that you have the resources to finish it. Getting started on a task is easy, but if you don’t have a solid financial and some other plans in place, it will result in little progress.

This is applicable in every aspect of our lives. Considering the cost of our actions and choices before we take them is also very important on this side of the world. We should not allow emotions or what we are going through to get at us to fall into error and later realize and try to prove innocence. It can be detrimental to our integrity. Always count your cost before you do!

Psalm 25 v 21
“Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.”

AS CELESTIANS, our hymns CCC Hymns 708, [Emi ni Baba toda yin etc], 538, Mo ro mo ewu nla ti Jesu etc], give insight into this. Let’s reflect on these and apply them to our lives in all facets. May our worship not be in vain in Jesus’ name.

In conclusion, Brethren, let’s sit down and estimate the cost before taking any action. It is very important in life. Both in personal and things pertaining to spiritual (Prov 24 v 27). However, all the sacrifices include dependence on the Holy Spirit, prayer, obedience, and word of God ( John 6 v 63,14 v 15, Joshua 1 v 8, Psalm 1 v 2, Colosians 3 vs.16-17, Philippians 4 v 6)

Romans 8 v 26
“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

Father, thank You for Your word that came to us expressly today. I pray that as we have confessed the Lord as our Saviour and make commitments to follow Him. May the Spirit and grace for discipline be endowed upon us as You makes us stand upright to the end of our sojourn unto eternal justification in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!

Be Mercifully Blessed.
Happy New Month.
JESUS IS LORD!
